Maybe it’s not ‘subtle racism’, or ‘sexism’, maybe it’s not ‘prejudice’.
What if it has to do with our need to belong, and to feel a part of a group, our need for social acceptance?
Maybe we gravitate towards and prefer people that are like us, race, gender, social status... because we think we will have things in common with them. We can relate to them and we just want to be understood.
After all, isn’t that what we all long for? Being understood and akin to someone?
